What it is…
Rally Retro Day is the second event of its kind for Rally cars in Australia, after the very successful inaugural Rally Retro Day in April 2019.
The aim is:
- To provide an event for owners of historically significant rally cars and faithfully built replicas to display their cars.
- If desired, for the owners to have a bit of fun with them on track in un-timed demonstration runs, allowing us to see and hear them in action as well.
- To celebrate the sport with those rally crews that made the cars famous (in 2019 we had crew members from the 3 London-Sydney Marathon Ford Falcons re-united with the 3 official Ford cars plus the fourth Falcon of Reg Lunn and Archie Hall!) Former rally greats will be invited as our VIP guests.
- To provide an avenue for promotion of day rally events taking place in 2020 and beyond, in the State Championship and Club rally series.
Often the owners won’t want to enter a full rally with them and in many case the cars would not be eligible to run with the changing of regulations and safety standards since these cars were competing.
It’s also a chance for the rest of us to have a look at these cars often hidden away in sheds and hopefully experience many of them in action, on a short course.
So often a winning rally car is used to donate parts to another car, sold to another owner who repaints it and changes its specification or is simply pushed aside and left to rot. We hope Rally Retro Festival will inspire the preservation and restoration of more significant rally cars from the sport’s rich history.
Please join us at Rally Retro Festival and be immersed in the nostalgia or the golden era of Australian Rally Sport and hear about rallies taking place this coming year.
